YOUNG 100
The Young 100 is the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Chapter's signature girls STEAM mentoring program.
Various research studies indicate African American women are drastically underrepresented in STEAM careers in the United States. Our mission with the Young 100 is to help expose young girls (rising 6th graders through HS Seniors) to STEAM activities and career professionals and help steer them toward those careers.
-
Spread the word about girls’ and women’s achievements in math and science.
-
Teach students about stereotype threat and promote a growth-mindset environment.
-
Encourage children to develop their spatial skills
-
Help girls recognize their career-relevant skills.
The participants are asked to commit to attending the Young 100 sessions and events with the expectation of graduating from high school and matriculating to college, a vocational school, or a professional occupation.
If you have a female, African American student (6th grade through HS Senior only) who is interested in applying to this program, please contact us at ncbw100smlpresident@gmail.com
